NOUN, Admission Requirements Into Diploma, Direct Entry, Post-Graduate & B. A Programmes


For all candidates that which to enroll for a programme at National Open University Of Nigeria, below are the requirements need to be offered admission into the institution programmes.
 
National Open University of Nigeria NOUN Admission Requirements Into Diploma, Direct Entry, Post-Graduate & B. A Programmes


Candidates seeking admission into the Diploma Programme must posses a minimum of four credits from WAEC/GCE '0' Levels or NECO with a credit in English and Mathematics.

For candidates applying for the B. A. programmes, a minimum of five credits from other subjects is required. The school also accepts passes in 'A' level certificates as well as Diploma certificates in a relevant area.

Candidates for admission into Post-Graduate Programmes must posses' a third-class degree from a related field or a pass degree from a related field with a minimum three years related experience may also be considered. A minimum of second-class lower division may be accepted for candidates from a different field who may wish to apply.



The School accepts a Post-Graduate Diploma or a minimum second-class degree for those applying for a Master degree Programme.

Certificate in Christian Theology

Students who desire to enroll for the Certificate Programme in Christian Theology must possess:
Minimum of 2 credits in English and CRK/CRS at SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Levels at not more than 2 sittings.
Teachers Grade II Certificate with at least 3 merits including English and and CRK/CRS will also be accepted.
Certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies

Candidates for the Certificate Programme in Islamic and Arabic studies should possess one of the following: 3 passes at the SSCE/ NECO/WAEC ‘O’ Level/ SISC/HIS (Senior Islamic School Certificate/ Higher Islamic School Certificate) two of which must be in Arabic and Islamic Studies;
I’dadi Certificate of Standard Islamiiyyah School ;
Certificate in Islamic and Arabic Studies;
Mature candidates of not less than thirty years who have evidence of proficiency in Arabic.
Certificate in French

A pass in English Language and any other subject at WAEC, GCE, TCII, NABTEB, NECO or equivalent.
A First School Leaving Certificate or Junior Secondary School Certificate may be considered for mature candidates who are 35 years and above.
Diploma in Christian Theology

A minimum of three credits, English and CRK/CRS inclusive;
Teachers Grade II Certificate with a minimum of at least 4 merits including English and CRK/CRS will also be considered.
Candidates with a Certificate in Christian Theology from NOUN with a B average in addition to four credits shall be considered for placement at 200 level of Diploma Programme.
Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies

Candidates for the Diploma Programme in Islamic and Arabic studies should possess one of the following:
2 credits/merits at the SSCE/NECO/WAEC ‘O’ Level/ SISC/HIS (Senior Islamic School Certificate/ Higher Islamic School Certificate) two of which must be in Arabic and Islamic Studies;
Thanawi Certificate of Standard Islamiiyyah School ;
Certificate in Islamic and Arabic Studies;
Evidence of proficiency in Arabic for mature candidates of not less than forty years.

B.A. Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution

Students who wish to enroll for this programme must possess:
Five ‘O’ level credit passes in SSCE at not more than two sittings, two of which must be English Language and Literature in English;
Holders of first degree from other universities may also be considered for the Direct Entry;
Direct Entry Candidates will be permitted to join in year two of the programme, but they may still be required to do some of the year one courses to be able to graduate.
B.A. Criminology and Security Studies

Students aspiring to enroll for this programme must possess:
Five ‘O’ level credits in not more than two sittings in the Senior School Certificate Examination (i. e five credits in S.S.C.E/ G.C.E ‘O’ Level/ NECO/ NABTEB passes in Grade 6 and above) of which two must be English Language and Mathematics.
B.A. Christian Theology

For admission into the Bachelor of Arts Programme in Christian theology, the School:
Requires a minimum of five credits, two of which must include English and CRK/CRS.
Merit passes in Diploma in Theology for Direct Entry into the 300 level for the BA Theology Programme may be considered.
Candidates who have Diploma in Christian Theology from NOUN with an average of B average in addition to four credits shall be considered for placement at the 200 level of the BA programme.
B.A. Islamic Studies

Students aspiring to enroll for this programme must possess
five credits in not more than two sittings at G.C.E, S.S.C.E, NECO or its equivalent ;
General University direct entry requirements WAEC / Advanced Level, National Diploma or equivalent.
BSc. Journalism

Students aspiring to enroll for this programme must posses:
Five ‘O’ level credit passes in SSCE at not more than two sittings, two of which must be English Language and Literature in English
National Diploma holders from relevant disciplines from institutions recognized by NOUN may also be considered for Direct Entry.
B.A. English Language

Students aspiring to enroll for this programme must possess:
Five credits at not more than two sittings in G.C.E, S.S.C.E, NECO or its equivalent, one of which must be in the English Language.
General University direct entry requirements WAEC / Advanced Level, National Diploma or equivalent and B.A in relevant areas.
B.A. French and International Studies

Admission Requirements:
To be admitted for the Bachelor of Arts in French and International Studies, a candidate is expected to have:
  1. Five (5) credit passes in the following subjects English Language, French and at least a pass in Mathematics at not more than two sittings at the WAEC or NECO.

    OR
  1. NOUN Diploma in French, Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE), National Diploma level Certificates, Diploma in French from the Nigeria French Language Village or a minimum of B1 (DELF/DALF) of Alliance Fran├žaise, with merit pass in French in addition to three O’ level credit passes, one of which must be English Language and a pass in Mathematics. Candidates who posses these requirements may be considered for entry into the 200 level of the programme. Those who hold B2, C1 and C2 (DELF/DALF) of the Alliance Fran├žaise are at an advantage.
OR
  1. Candidates without the knowledge of French may also apply. However, such candidates must satisfy other admission requirements as stated in (a) above. Candidate admitted will be required to take a one-year intensive course in French during the first year making a total of 10 semesters as against 8 semesters in (a) above.
Concession: However, matured candidates with lesser qualifications to the ones stated above, but who must have attained forty-five years of age and having had minimum of ten years of cognate experience in any recognised organisation where his/her daily routine is dependent on the course of study, could be admitted on concession
BSc. Political Science 2211
To be admitted into the programme, prospective students are expected, in addition to the entry requirements of the National Open University of Nigeria, to have:
At least five credits in SSCE, NECO or GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent at not more than two sittings. The credit passes must include English Language, Government, History, Geography, Economics, Business Studies and at least a pass in Mathematics.
Or        NCE (Political Science and/or Economics related combinations) or GCE A/L passes in any two of the following – Government, History, Economics, Geography, Accounting and Business Management (with a minimum of a credit grade in the two subjects), OND in the relevant discipline or its equivalent with merit pass in Government/History/Political Science in addition to three ‘O’ level credit passes, two of which must be English Language and Government.

     However, mature candidates with lesser qualifications to the ones stated above, but who must have attained forty-five years of age and having had a minimum of ten years of cognate experience in any recognised organisation where his/her daily routine is dependent on the course of study, could be admitted on concession.

PGD in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution

Students who wish to enroll for this programme must be:
Graduates from a recognized university with at least second-class lower division or Persons with qualifications adjudged to be equivalent to a first degree may be admitted into the programme.
Holders of a HND with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized institution may also apply.
PGD Criminology and Security Studies

Students who wish to enroll for this programme must be:
Graduates from recognized universities with at least second-class lower division;
Persons with qualifications adjudged to be equivalent to a first degree;
Holders of HND with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized institution may also apply.
PGD in Christian Theology

For admission into the post-graduate diploma in Christian theology, the School accepts:
Graduates from recognized universities, with a minimum of second-class lower division or persons with qualifications adjudged to be equivalent of a first degree may also be admitted into the programme;
Holders of a Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized institution may also apply.
PGD in Journalism

Students who wish enroll for this programme must be:
Graduates from a recognized university with a minimum of second-class lower division;
Persons with qualifications adjudged to be equivalent to a first degree;
Holders of a HND with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized institution may also apply.
M.A. Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution

Candidates with a minimum of second- class lower division from a recognised University may be admitted, provided the matriculation requirements are met;
A candidate with a good post- graduate diploma from a recognized University may also be admitted.
MSc.Journalism

Candidates with minimum of first degree, second- class lower division from any recognized University may be admitted, provided the matriculation requirements are met;
Candidates with good post- graduate diploma from a recognized University may also be admitted provided matriculation requirement is met.
M.A. English Language

Candidates for this programme shall be holders of an honours degree in English from Universities recognized by the Senate of National Open University of Nigeria.
However graduates in related disciplines may also be considered.
M.A. French

Students shall normally be holders of an Honours degree in French from universities recognised by NOUN. However graduates of Linguistics, and other modern languages may also be considered provided they score the required overall minimum points in French.


Direct Entry Requirements

1. B.SC. COOPERATIVES MANAGEMENT
Candidates are required to possess any one of the following items:
(a) OND (Upper Credit) in any of these areas
- Cooperative Studies
- Accounting
- Banking and Finance
- Marketing

(b) NCE with a minimum of 1 merit and 2 passes. Apart from Education, relevant subjects should include:
- Accounting
- Business Studies
- Economics

(c) GCE Advanced Level, with at least 2 credit passes. Relevant subjects to include:
- Accounting
- Business Management
- Economics
- Government

2. B.SC. HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
Candidates are required to possess any one of the following:
(a) OND (Upper Credit) in any of these areas -
- Home Economics
- Hotel & Catering Management
- Hospitality Management

(b) NCE with a minimum of 1 merit and 2 passes. Apart from Education, subjects to include:
- Home Economics

(c) GCE Advanced Level, with at least 2 credit passes. Relevant subjects to include:
- Home Science & Management
- Accounting
- Business Management
- Economics
- Government

3. B.SC. ENTREPRENEURIAL & BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Candidates are required to possess any one of the following items:
(a) OND (Upper Credit) in any of these areas -
- Business Studies
- Business Administration
- Marketing
- Cooperative Studies

(b) NCE with a minimum of 1 merit and 2 passes. Apart from Education, subjects to include:
- Accounting
- Business Studies
- Economics

(c) GCE Advanced Level, with at least 2 credit passes. Relevant subjects to include:
- Accounting
- Business Management
- Economics
- Government

4. B.SC. ACCOUNTING
Candidates are required to possess any one of the following:
(a) OND (Upper Credit) in -
- Accounting
(b) GCE Advanced Level, with at least 2 credit passes. Relevant subjects to include:
- Accounting
- Business Management
- Economics
- Government
